Five weeks before Christmas, some consumers are already preparing in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). “There are big promotions, it’s very interesting”confides a buyer. Here, foie gras is sold for 46 euros per kilo, instead of 54 euros. Prices on canned goods will not change, unlike those on fresh and semi-cooked liver, which will rise a few days before Christmas.
In 2023, avian flu decimated duck farms and the price of foie gras had exploded. For the truffle, on this Sunday, November 17, there is still uncertainty. The first specimens arrived, coming from Spain. “640 euros per kilo. Knowing that last year at Christmas, we were at 2,000 euros per kilo“, says a salesman.
In this covered market, Toulouse residents are starting to buy, at better prices. At a fishmonger, the price of scallops should remain stable but the price of sea bass, sea bream and monkfish should be almost twice as expensive at Christmas.
