What a thrill! Arón Canet wins a thrilling battle to the finish line in the Moto2 race in Barcelona.

Arón Canet emerged victorious at the Moto2 Solidarity GP in Barcelona. This Sunday’s race featured a breathtaking final lap, with the battle for victory and podium positions decided until the last second. The Spaniard overtook Manuel González to become the driver with the most victories this season.

The race began with Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) stumbling at the start, while González (Gresini/Kalex) produced an impeccable launch to take the lead ahead of Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) and Filip Salac ( Elf Marc VDS/Kalex).

Drama ensued on the first lap when Jorge Navarro (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) and Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar/Kalex) collided at turn 5, while Roberto García (Fantic Racing/Kalex) also fall.

A serious accident occurred on the second lap en route to Turn 1, when Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) and Zonta van den Goorbergh (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP/Kalex) collided while braking, both pilots having to be transported to the medical center. Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) and Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) were also involved but were not injured.

Soon after, Salac overtook Ogura to take second place, but the Japanese driver quickly regained his position. By the third lap, Canet, despite his chaotic start, had climbed to second place. Salac fell to fifth place, overtaken by Fermín Aldeguer (Sync SpeedUp/Boscoscuro). The future Gresini MotoGP rider had to serve a Long Lap penalty on lap 4, knocking him out of the top ten.

At the end of lap 4, Canet passed González for the lead. Meanwhile, Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex) looked promising in fifth place, ready to challenge for a potential podium finish, although he ultimately lost momentum.

With nine laps remaining, a fierce battle for third began, with Moreira putting pressure on Ogura. However, the season champion held on for several rounds. With three laps remaining, Moreira made a strong challenge but Ogura managed to maintain his third position.

Meanwhile, González closed the gap on Canet, reigniting the battle for victory. With Ogura and Moreira not far behind, the fight expanded to a four-way contest.

At the start of the final lap, Moreira finally took third place, only for Ogura to take it back near the end. However, the Brazilian recovered it definitively in the last corner. Up front, Canet held off González to win by a slim margin of 0.091s. With his first podium in Moto2, Moreira also won the rookie of the year title. Ogura and Salac completed the top five.
