Marilyne Gagné of Dermapure is considering a pickleball center in Sherbrooke

Ten pickleball surfaces and a bistro. A concept very similar to indoor dek hockey centers, but this time, the place will attract pickleball fans, who are growing in number.

“I founded Dermapure, I recently left and I have always been sensitive to trends. Pickleball is becoming more and more popular. We love this sport, the children too, our parents… It affects all generations and there is no center for playing pickleball indoors in the region. The opportunity is there, we are passionate, so for us, the project was obvious.”

An investment of approximately three million dollars is planned for this center built along Highway 10 in Deauville, near Bourque Boulevard.

“There are four investors in the adventure and in the spring, construction should begin. We feel this enthusiasm for pickleball. It’s very unifying. There has been an increase of almost 50% in the last one in the number of followers. The principle will resemble that of a private tennis club. Prices will be affordable, between $12 and $15 per person for a session and we also plan to organize leagues, elite tournaments and special events. The discipline could even end up in the Olympic Games and the infrastructure must meet the demand,” continues Marilyne Gagné.

Mathieu Routhier, co-owner of Comptoir Design, is also participating in the project.

A survey is currently circulating on social networks to capture the pulse of the region. Already 400 respondents have given their opinion.

“The sample is already good, we can see that people are interested and we are banking a lot on volume to make the place a success. We can’t wait, we want to give atmosphere to the center also with our little café, the bistro. People like to go out, get off social networks and dating sites, see people, move around, have fun. The project interested me. I like service, people’s happiness and I wanted to be more present in the community, participate in committees, such as that of investors in the city of Sherbrooke. We can’t wait for all this to begin and to see the results soon!” summarizes Ms. Gagné.
