VIDEO – A pileup from the start of the 2024 Macau Grand Prix

The Macao Grand Prix does not fail in its reputation, for this 71st edition. From the first lap of the race under green flag – after a start under Safety Car – a pile-up involving seven drivers took place during the first braking, at the Hotel Lisboa bend, causing an immediate red flag. While trying to pass Matteo de Palo on the outside, James Wharton went too wide and hit the Tec-Pro barrier on the outside.

In this corner where the exit is blind, several drivers were unable to avoid the stranded car of the Asutralien: Kenato Le, Kai Daryanani, Jett Bowling, Rintaro Sato and Tiago Rodrigues all finished their race being crushed in another car. Rikuto Kobayashi also tapped, but he was able to reverse and start again. Last victim of this big accident: Evan Giltaire, who almost managed to avoid James Wharton’s car, but who still hit his teammate at ART Grand Prix and broke his left rear suspension.
