Senegal goes to the polls today for early legislative elections, a crucial event to define the composition of the 165 seats in the National Assembly for the next five years. These elections come following President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s bold decision, taken in September, to dissolve parliament previously dominated by supporters of former President Macky Sall.

These elections will be decisive for the political future of Senegal, determining whether the president will be able to rely on a parliamentary majority to realize his transformation program. They also highlight the democratic challenges and the dynamics of political forces in the country.

Facing them, the ruling party, Pastef-les Patriotesis leading the battle with a list led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, appointed last April.
