Despite the disastrous results and a gap which begins to widen between the Red Devils and their public, some die-hards are not giving up. There will be around a hundred of them in Budapest.
Red Devils supporters did not have the opportunity to go to Hungary for the match between Belgium and Israel: the match, which was held in Debrecen, took place behind closed doors. This time, for this Israel-Belgium which takes place in the slightly more touristy city of Budapest, they are indeed authorized.
But we should of course not expect them to arrive in the thousands in the Hungarian capital given the rather negative results of recent months (but also the fact that the match is being held on a Sunday evening, of course). Thus, the Newspaper reveals that around… 160 Belgian supporters are expected to make the trip.
Hard core, motivated, Belgians passing through Budapest, they will not be in the majority… but only slightly, because it seems that only 200 Israeli supporters (from Hungary) have taken their tickets. There will be added around 200 Hungarian (or neutral) supporters.
The calculation is quickly done: roughly speaking, 560 tickets were sold on the eve of this Israel-Belgium which does not unleash passions. The Honved Budapest stadium where the match is held can accommodate 9,000 people. Suffice to say that the whole thing will sound very hollow.
Of course, it cannot be ruled out that many – local – supporters will decide on the day and fill the stadium aisles a little. But the atmosphere should remain subdued for this decidedly dull end to the Red Devils’ Nations League campaign.
