Culture takes flight at AIBD

The Blaise Diagne international airport in Diass is the attraction for travelers keen on visual . Indeed, as part of the 15th Biennale of Contemporary African Art in Dakar, around ten artists are exhibiting their works at the AIBD terminal.

Beautiful works composed among others of painting on canvas in pencil and/or acrylic by Manel Ndoye, Baba Ly, Sandiry Niang, Baye Diaga Diouf, Latifa Touré, photographs by Ousmane Ndiaye Dago, Ina Thiam, tapestries from the Thiès Decorative Arts Manufacture, sculptures by Alpha Diallo, Makhone Diop, Balla Ndao, adorn the airport.

According to Askin Demir, General Director of LAS, this exhibition is part of a collaboration that links him to the direction of the Biennale since 2018.

“Through our AEROG’ART project, we are striving to make the Dakar Blaise Diagne airport a real tool for promoting contemporary African art and culture. The management of the Biennale has been our partner since 2018. We have the honor of having this exhibition here at the airport. The airport is the entry and exit point of the country. Everyone comes to visit Senegal and uses our entry point. is a very important place to bring together artists, to represent Senegalese culture with visitors to Senegal,” said Askin Demir.

The 15th edition of the Biennale of Contemporary African Arts takes place from November 7 to December 7, under the theme “The wake, The wake”.

“Our biennialists who come from abroad, but also Senegalese artists who are very mobile go through the AIBD to come to Dakar, but also to go to other countries to show contemporary creation. Through the Biennale, just for the In Forum we have 129 artists, who exhibited and we have 495 works of art in the IN program exhibited in the three sites which are the old courthouse, the museum of black civilizations with the two invited countries of honor: Cape Verde and the United States And we also have the tribute paid to Mamadou Ndoye Douts at the national gallery We have more than 400 OFF events across Dakar, Senegal and the Diaspora. the airport exhibition”, explains Marième Ba, national secretary of the Biennale of Contemporary African Art in Dakar.
