The journalist and novelist Agnès Laurent won the Honoré-de-Balzac 2024 literary prize. The trophy was presented to her on Friday November 15 at the Hôtel de la Tortinière in Veigné by Laurent Decaux, president of the 2024 jury, a writer inspired by Story dear to his father, and by the successful novelist Aurélie Valognes, guest of honor.
“Everything that Balzac knew how to do so well”
The ceremony was the prelude to the fifth edition of the Tours Book Fair, which took place at the Grand Théâtre (read elsewhere). It was organized by Monique Lefaucheur, president of the Livres en Loire association, with her team of volunteers. It took place in the presence of Sylvie Giner, vice-president of the departmental council, responsible in particular for culture, and around forty personalities, members or partners of the association.
The president had words of gratitude “towards private partners and institutions which faithfully support the association, whose objective is to promote books and reading for all”. Sylvie Giner assured that “the departmental council will continue to help Livres en Loire and its cultural activities open to all”.
Laurent Decaux presented the subject, the characters of the novel and partly discussed their destinies. “For me, this prize awarded to Agnès Laurent was essential because there is in her book everything that Balzac knew how to do so well,” he concluded.
In turn, the literary journalist Philippe Chauveau conducted a remarkable interview with the novelist, nourishing with relevance and humor a dialogue which delighted the audience.
