A knife attack at a school in the east of the Chine left eight people dead and 17 injured on Saturday, authorities said, adding that the perpetrator had been arrested. Such deadly attacksare generally uncommon in the country. But this is the second killing in China this week after a car ramming attack which left 35 dead on Monday.

“At 6:30 p.m., 10:30 a.m. local time, a stabbing attack took place at Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology” in Jiangsu province and “left eight dead and 17 injured” , said police in the city of Yixing, where the tragedy took place. She said the suspect was “arrested at the scene”.

What the survey says

According to the first elements of the investigation, cited in the press release, the suspect would be a 21-year-old man, student of the class of 2024. “Because that he did not obtain his diploma after failing the exams and because he was dissatisfied with his remuneration during his internship, he returned to school to vent his anger and commit these murders,” Yixing police said.

The suspect “confessed everything,” she said. “The services are fully mobilized to provide care to the injured, manage the aftermath of the tragedy and complete the investigation into this matter,” concluded the police.

China remains very safe overall, but the country has seen several deadly attacks in recent months. A 62-year-old man drove an SUV into people exercising outside at a sports complex in Zhuhai, Guangdong province (south), on Monday evening, killing 35 people. and around forty injured.
