A shower of forfeits: five Red Devils will not play against Israel, a Hope of the trip

Five Red Devils are not traveling to face Israel in Hungary this Sunday.

As we announced to you this morning, Maxim De Cuyper, Romelu Lukaku, Arthur Theate and Amadou Onana did not take part in the training session this Saturday morning. Confirmation has just come: they will not play against Israel and are therefore leaving the group which is flying to Hungary this Saturday, around 3 p.m.

Already absent from the scoresheet against Italy, Lavia is not ready either and will therefore return to Chelsea.

5 packages which are therefore added to the long list of Belgian players injured for this international break. To fill part of the void left by the injured, Domenico Tedesco called on Norman Bassette, already present in training this Saturday morning. The young striker plays for Coventry City, in the Championship, and was on the bench of the Belgian Espoirs on Friday evening for the first leg of the qualifying play-offs for Euro U21 football 2025.

The 20-year-old center forward came on in the 63rd minute of play in place of Lucas Stassin. Bassette, on loan to Mechelen during the 2023-2024 season, is called up to the first team for the first time. This season, he has played 6 matches (out of 13 possible) and has yet to find the net.

Despite this last minute reinforcement, Domenico Tedesco will not be spoiled for choice when it comes to naming the 11 starters to face Israel this Sunday in Hungary. A meeting which will be followed on the RTL sports channels.
