A man had been holed up since 1 p.m. this Saturday, November 16, in his father’s restaurant in Issy-les-Moulineaux. He was arrested around 4 p.m. and the four hostages were released.
A man “hidden” in the pizzeria “L’Olivier” in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Hauts-de-Seine), was arrested this Saturday, November 16 around 4 p.m., BFMTV learned from a police source. The latter had “taken refuge” in his father’s restaurant and had detained four employees since 1 p.m.
“A man armed with a knife locked himself in his father’s restaurant,” the Paris police headquarters said earlier in the day.
There was no “clientele or audience” at that time. The suspect was arrested by the research and intervention brigade (BRI), including a mediator who had been mobilized for the operation “because of the person concerned’s desire to commit suicide”. None of the four employees taken hostage were injured.
Already known to the police but unknown to the courts
According to our information, the suspect suffers from drug addiction and is known to law enforcement but unknown to the courts. His lawyer, contacted by BFMTV, testified that the madman’s mental state “had deteriorated recently”. The suspect was known in the neighborhood, local residents say. “Every day we pass in front of the restaurant, we see that he smokes, sometimes drugs (…) I have neighbors who often go to the restaurant and who tell me that he is not very clean” , explains a young man living in the neighborhood.
“I see him every evening in passing, he’s not well. I think he has a drug problem,” Anthony, a 23-year-old student, who prefers not to give his last name, also told AFP. “I saw the police arriving earlier, it’s impressive… I’ve already been to the restaurant, there was no problem,” adds Monique Teichet, retired and resident of the neighborhood.
“They have a good reputation, except for him. He had already lost his temper a few years ago, it’s sad,” a manager of another pizzeria in the neighborhood seems to sympathize with AFP.
The suspect taken into custody
The man was taken into police custody and will undergo a psychiatric examination. An investigation into kidnapping and sequestration has been opened, the prosecution announced to BFMTV.
Dispatched at midday, numerous police vehicles and security forces, helmeted and armed, blocked traffic around rue Ernest Renan to establish a large security perimeter in the neighborhood, located a few dozen meters from the Paris ring road.
