When will the podium be? This is the question that Camille Rast’s supporters are asking themselves. The Valaisanne is turning around and its consistency should soon be rewarded. Excellent last season on the short bend, Camille Rast proved that she now knows how to go fast on less favorable tracks. Comfortable on the slope, the skier from Vétroz could perhaps have done even better if she had not lost 1”22 during the initial route. The podium was decided by 48 hundredths.

On the podium, we find the extraordinary Mikaela Shiffrin. The American scored her 98th World Cup success in Finland. In passing, she treated herself to her eighth reindeer just to perfect her impeccable imitation of Santa Claus. The skier from Vail did not have to fight against her best enemy Petra Vlhova, who was still absent. The podium was completed by Katharina Liensberger and Lena Dürr.

Besides Camille Rast, another Romande achieved an excellent result. Mélanie Meillard was indeed ranked 7th, 1”43 behind Shiffrin. Tenth in the first round, Mélanie Meillard was the first to resist Emma Aicher’s comeback, despite losing 77 hundredths in the second round. This Levi Black is truly the favorite playground of the Valaisanne of Neuchâtel origin. Before this 7th place, she had four other places in the top 10 with the best result being 5th place in 2017.

For her first slalom since breaking her left ankle almost a year ago, Wendy Holdener was unable to repeat her good training. 13th at the end of the first route, the Schwyzoise fell to settle in 16th place. Disappointment also for Michelle Gisin. The Obwalden, 11th in the morning, fell and could not do better than 24th.

Note that Aline Danioth finished 40th after 20 months of inactivity and a fourth cruciate ligament operation.
