The 35th meeting of the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee for the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center was held on November 15 (local time) in St. Petersburg, Russia, under the chairmanship of Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Vice President. Vietnamese Minister of Defense, and Konstantin Mogilevsky, Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education.
Moscow (VNA) – The 35th meeting of the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee for the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center was held on November 15 (local time) in St. Petersburg, Russia, under the chairmanship of Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chiên, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense, and Konstantin Mogilevsky, Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education.
During the meeting, both sides praised the achievements of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center in 2024, especially its scientific and technological activities and efforts to strengthen its capabilities.
Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien reiterated the joint statements of leaders of the two countries, emphasizing their desire to strengthen cooperation, aiming to make the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center a model of bilateral cooperation that meets standards regional and international.
Russian Deputy Minister Konstantin Mogilevsky highlighted the growing importance of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center in the fields of science and technology, adding that the two sides have carried out important scientific and practical tasks over the past year . He also highlighted the consensus reached on the Center’s scientific and technological research and application program for the period 2025-2029.
The two sides agreed to intensify efforts in 2025 to implement the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center Development Strategy for 2035. In addition, they agreed to finalize the necessary files and present them to the governments of the two countries for the signing of an agreement on the transfer of ownership of the scientific research vessel “Professor Gagarinsky” to Vietnam before June 30, 2025. In addition, work will continue to provide additional equipment to the level 3 biosafety laboratory, in with a view to its completion and operational launch in 2025.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides signed several documents, including the minutes of this 35th meeting, the scientific research and application program of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center for 2025-2029, its research plan science and technology for 2025, and a letter of intent between the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia regarding technology transfer within the framework of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center.
Previously, Hoang Xuan Chien visited the St. Petersburg Mining University, where he discussed research areas related to mining science and technology.
