The Swiss are not all in front at the end of the first round of the Levi slalom. Camille Rast (7th at 1”22) is the best Swiss, while Mikaela Shiffrin dominates the competition.
We were expecting Wendy Holdener, Michelle Gisin or even Mélanie Meillard, but it was ultimately Camille Rast who finished best Swiss halfway through this first slalom of the season.
Only the skier from Vétroz can have some regrets. The loss of grip on the top of this “Levi Black”, then a gap on the bottom unfortunately cost time and “erased” a wall where she looked Mikaela Shiffrin in the eyes.
The Swiss lack precision
Unlike the American who is chasing her 98th World Cup success and her eighth reindeer just to perfect her impeccable imitation of Santa Claus, the Swiss slalom racers lacked precision when attacking the gates.
On a track that she likes, Mélanie Meillard is in 10th place at 1”42, just ahead of Michelle Gisin (at 1”51). For her first slalom since breaking her left ankle almost a year ago, Wendy Holdener did not manage to play in the same league as the best. The 31-year-old from Schwyz is placed in provisional 13th place at 1”83. It’s up to her to attempt a good comeback on the second route from 1 p.m.
Nicole Good did not reach the finish.
