Air Algérie suspends the Jijel – Marseille line
It is known: during the winter period, demand for plane tickets drops sharply between France and Algeria. Airlines operating between the two countries are adapting their offers, including significant reductions in plane ticket prices.
But despite these discounts, airlines are unable to refuel their planes during this period. Some lines are more affected than others. This is the case of the line Marseille – Jijeloperated by Air Algérie this summer.
The Algerian national airline has decided not to extend it for the winter period. The line is therefore suspended and reservations are no longer available on the site or in agencies. However, it should resume service from the end of next March, as part of Air Algérie's summer program.
Transavia and Volotea cut prices between France and Algeria
Currently, you can book plane tickets between France and Algeria from €28 one way, with the low-cost airlines Transavia and Volotea. A boon for those who can travel outside of school holiday periods.
Indeed, on its website, Transavia displays price from 28 € from certain French airports to Algeria and on certain dates in 2024 and early 2025. You can book a round trip to Algeria from €67. Transavia has the second largest network of routes between France and Algeria after Air Algérie.
For its part, the low-cost Volotea offers departures from €43 to Algeria. A promotion launched on the occasion of Black Friday.
Royal Air Maroc strengthens its fleet
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is accelerating the renewal of its fleet, with the acquisition of two new aircraft. The announcement was made this week.
The Moroccan public airline adds two Boeing 787-9s to its fleet. It now has seven aircraft of this type, designed for long-haul flights. Enough to enable RAM to strengthen its current connections and open new lines, particularly to North America and Asia, including Beijing in China.
The acquisition of these two latest generation Boeing 787-9s is part of a call for tenders launched by RAM in April 2023.
Indeed, as part of its development plan, RAM sets the objective of quadrupling the size of its fleet by 2030. From the current 52 aircraft, the Moroccan airline's fleet should increase to 200 aircraft, according to the company's management projections.
Algerian dinar exchange rate: the euro and the dollar still at the top
For foreign tourists, particularly European and American, the Algerian destination has never been so affordable in terms of cost of living there. Indeed, with a largely favorable exchange rate on the currency black market, they can stay in the country while spending very little.
This week, the euro and the US dollar accelerated their rise against the Algerian dinar. The single European currency reached 256 Algerian dinars. For its part, the dollar is now trading at 242 Algerian dinars on the parallel market.
