Real Madrid are preparing for a decisive winter transfer window to strengthen their central defense.
With the prolonged injury of Éder Militão, the Madrid club is forced to recruit a defender in January, a rather unusual scenario for the Merengues. Several options are being considered, but financial constraints and player availability strongly influence decision-making.
The main tracks: Aymeric Laporte and Castello Lukeba
Among the favorites, Aymeric Laporte, currently at Al-Nassr, presents an experienced profile appreciated by the club. However, convincing Al-Nassr to release Laporte mid-season could prove complex, especially given his high salary, which the player is expected to agree to reduce. As for Castello Lukeba, the French defender from Leipzig is also a top option, but his transfer is likely to be very costly, as the German club are not inclined to let him leave without substantial financial compensation.
L’option alternative : Jonathan Tah
On a more affordable note, Jonathan Tah, from Bayer Leverkusen, could be an advantageous solution. With his contract expiring in June, Real Madrid could negotiate his transfer at a reduced price to avoid Leverkusen losing him for free at the end of the season. In addition, Tah has a good understanding with Antonio Rüdiger, his teammate in the German selection, which would facilitate his integration into the Madrid defense.
The dilemma of priorities
For now, Laporte and Lukeba remain at the top of the club’s priorities. However, the situation could change by January, particularly if negotiations with Al-Nassr or Leipzig prove too complicated. In this case, Tah could become a prime option, allowing Real Madrid to strengthen their defense without compromising their budget for the end of the season.
