Autumn Grand Prix memories with Morgan Regairaz: “I would like to see him every morning”

“What can you tell us about your four victories in the Autumn Grand Prix?

The first, in 2018, has a special meaning because it was my first Group 1 and at the moment, we don't know that we will win this race again in the next three years. Winning a Group 1 is already exceptional, so having several is not reserved for everyone. The second I saw a video from a friend of mine, Philippe Dumaswho is the owner at Yannick Fouinwho shouted from the stands: “Ensure, ensure! » I remember this video even though on horseback, I was in my bubble after securing the last one (laughs) and I was especially happy to keep my title. For the third, it was during the COVID period and my wife was screaming and crying behind the parking lot gates. The fourth was the tactical choice to stay inside and above all allow the horse to make history. It was moving.

Why was he so successful in this event?

He was a horse who loved heavy terrain, he only had one train. He wore out the others and in the end, he didn't accelerate any faster than anyone else. He made the difference in the final phase. In the spring, he lost his temper a little. He feared the heat, especially in the morning. When it was too hot, he took a hard time physically. As soon as it started to get cold, he took on his mouse hair and he was a cracker.

The toughest opponent you encountered during these events?

Without hesitation, Autonomy. She was a champion, she beat me in every prep. The distance was for her too at those times but she was an incredible mare and beating her wasn't easy.

Do you have any regrets with Galop Marin?

My biggest regret is after his career. I wish he hadn't died and that I could see him every morning at home. He was my horse, the perfect horse.

What does this race represent in your eyes?

It's a Group 1, there are only nine in so obviously it's a source of pride to have your name on the list. I owe everything to Galop Marin because we made history together. When we think of the Autumn Grand Prix, we think of him, and sometimes, we also think a little of me so that makes me happy (laughs).”
