In Central Africa, the UN Security Council decided to renew for one year the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the UN Mission in the Central African Republic was extended for one year.

The news was made public by the United Nations Security Council on Thursday, November 14, via a press release.

Indeed, the UN Security Council unanimously opted for the renewal of the mandate of MINUSCA in this Central African country.

Note that the decision was taken following an information session on the situation in the Central African Republic. At the end of this session, resolution 2759 which provides for the maintenance of the current troop ceiling was adopted.

Thus, this new mandate of the UN mission in the Central African Republic runs until November 15, 2025.

“This is the first time since 2020 that the mandate of this mission has been unanimously renewed”specifies the United Nations press release.

“The mandate is renewed without major changes. The ceiling for peacekeeping personnel – 14,400 soldiers and 3,020 police officers – is maintained. The priority tasks of the Mission remain those defined in resolution 2709 (2023)”adds the press release.

Regarding the tasks of the UN mission of this country, these include: protection of civilians, support for the extension of state authority, support for the process peace, the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid and the protection of United Nations personnel and assets.

Remember that the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic began in 2014 in the country, in a context where the Central African Republic was facing an inter-ethnic civil war.
