In “The Last Showgirl” by Gia Coppola, Pamela Anderson plays Shelley, a fifty-year-old showgirl from Las Vegas.
Presented as a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, Gia Coppola's new feature film made a generally positive impression. Its most acclaimed aspect: Pamela Anderson's performance, which marks her return to the big screen since the reboot ofAlert to Malibuin 2017.
In The Last Showgirlshe plays Shelley, a fifty-year-old dancer from Las Vegas who finds herself confronted with the unknown when the show that has employed her for 30 years suddenly closes. The trailer follows his wanderings through the glitter of Sin City, which evokes both Showgirl by Verhoeven, and Falling for something by… Francis Ford Coppola (his grandfather, therefore).
Blonde's Revenge
The 57-year-old actress, until now known for her roles as a “busty blonde”, takes revenge here, as she declared during a press conference at TIFF: “A lot of my career has been about physics. It was difficult, but it was also part of the reason why I, in a way, did this experiment with myself to detach myself from it all, reminding myself that I am not defined by what the people do to me, but by what I do.”
Director Gia Coppola had the idea of offering the title role to Pamela Anderson, after seeing her in the Netflix documentary Pamela, A Love Story (2023), in which the actress appeared without filter, “vulnerable, not really wearing makeup”, as she indicated during an interview to promote the film: “I could see that he was a person who was not afraid.”
