Miami businessman charged with murder of wife who disappeared for nine months

According to the first elements of the investigation, David Knezevich traveled from Miami to Spain “with the intention of killing, injuring, harassing and intimidating his wife and committed a violent crime against her, resulting in her death”.

David Knezevich, a 36-year-old businessman living in Florida, was arrested and indicted for the murder of his wife, who had been missing for more than nine months, reports CNN. The latter, aged 40, disappeared from her apartment in Madrid on February 2, after the surveillance cameras in her building were covered with spray paint.

The charges against the accused include: kidnapping resulting in death, domestic violence committed abroad resulting in death, as well as murder of a US national on foreign soil. David Knezevich thus risks the death penalty.

Macabre scenario

Although defense attorney Jayne Weintraub maintains her client’s innocence, saying “there is no evidence that David Knezevich actually kidnapped or killed his wife,” the FBI investigation revealed reveal a macabre and damning scenario for the businessman.

The investigation reveals that Knezevich allegedly bought a plane ticket to go to Türkiye from Miami, six days before his wife’s disappearance. From there, he would have gone to Serbia, his country of origin, to rent a car, with which he would have driven to Spain. This same model, a Peugeot with tinted windows, was spotted near Ana Hedao’s home by a surveillance camera on the day of the disappearance. Furthermore, the rental company indicated that, when the car was returned, more than 7,700 km had been covered, the windows had been tinted and the license plates, initially modified, had been put back in place.

Divorce proceedings

On the day of the disappearance, David Knezevich was filmed purchasing spray paint and masking tape at a hardware store in central Madrid. These elements add to an already damning indictment for this tech mogul. Despite this evidence, the man who pleaded not guilty last June to the kidnapping of his wife intends to reiterate his defense, according to his lawyer.

According to several sources close to the victim, the couple was engaged in stormy divorce proceedings and arguing over several million dollars in real estate.

As the investigation continues, the FBI is pleased that “the case is becoming more and more solid”, while those close to Ana Hedao continue to affirm that “justice will be done”.
