The man suspected of the assassination of a homeless man in Lyon and of attempted homicides in France and Rotterdam (Netherlands), must be presented this Friday to an investigating judge, we learned this Thursday evening at the Evry public prosecutor's office (Essonne).
Request for detention
A 32-year-old man suspected of the murder of a homeless man in Lyon and of attempted homicides in France and Rotterdam (Netherlands) will be presented to an investigating judge on Friday, according to an announcement made this Thursday by the public prosecutor's office in Evry (Essonne).
The prosecution requested his indictment for attempted assassination in Evry and his placement in pre-trial detention. Public prosecutor Grégoire Dulin told AFP that he was considering bringing together all of the French investigations targeting this man.
In addition to the murder in Lyon and the attempted homicide in Evry, investigators are wondering about his role in several attacks carried out with a similar modus operandi in Dijon (Côte-d'Or), Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) and Rotterdam.
Placed under OQTF
The suspect was arrested Tuesday evening at Toulon station (Var) after the attack on a young woman on board a train traveling in the south of France. He then presented himself during his arrest as a 32-year-old Cameroonian subject to an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF).
He is suspected of being the author of the murder of a homeless Moldovan national, whose body was found Monday morning with a large wound on his head and a concrete block at his side.
Investigators noted similarities in attacks carried out with a concrete slab in Evry, Dijon, Strasbourg and Rotterdam.
Possible business in Evry, Strasbourg and Dijon
An investigating judge from Evry had issued an arrest warrant as part of an investigation opened into an attempted homicide targeting a man, beaten in the face on the square in front of the Evry-Courcouronnes station on October 23 while he was asleep. Seriously injured, the victim was given total incapacity for work for 45 days.
In Dijon, in July, a 42-year-old woman, who was not homeless, was also attacked by a man who hit her in the head with one or more rocks, according to the prosecutor. The victim's ITT (total incapacity for work) was set at 10 days.
In Strasbourg, an investigation was opened after the attack on a homeless person on October 30. The victim was initially hospitalized with a life-threatening condition, but his life is no longer in danger, the prosecutor said.
“No objective link and any conclusion is premature”
Investigations are underway to “establish a relationship with the individual arrested” in Toulon but “as the investigation stands, there is no objective link and any conclusion is premature,” he added. .
After his arrest in Toulon, the suspect was placed in judicial detention. He will be presented to an investigating magistrate in Evry on Friday following his transfer.
In addition to the attacks carried out in France, Dutch police suspect him of being involved in the attempted murder of a 37-year-old homeless man on November 5 near the old port of Rotterdam.
