After being forced to remove many new features from Season 14 of Sea of Thieves, Rare had already reintroduced certain elements, and the studio is today providing an update on the rest of the events. Unfortunately, you will have to show a little more patience for the situation to improve, since the update planned for today has been postponed.
Rare postpones November update at the last minute
In this developer update, Drew Stevens, Production Director on Sea of Thieves, discusses the important changes and additions coming to the game. First of all, an update originally planned for today will be available in a few days and will mark the return of features removed from Season 14. Players will now be able to set traps, cling to ledges in complete discretion, and once again wear disguises. In addition to this, some very important fixes will be deployed, such as the removal of quick switching, which allowed you to shoot more quickly while crouching. Additionally, exploits like taking treasure from beneath the Fort of the Damned will now be fixed, making the experience more balanced.
The team also implemented significant efforts to improve the quality of the game. An extended testing period for the November update allowed features to be refined before launch. This is part of an overall effort to strengthen quality control in the game, with improvements coming within the studio to support this evolution. In addition, a gold and Doubloon bonus will be offered during the first week of the update, and a Voyage of Luck will be accessible, including one Voyage of Luck legendary for pirates legends. Players can now expect such additions every month, to keep them coming back.
Concerning security and the fight against cheaters, new measures have been introduced, including the automatic detection of players using giant objects, which leads to immediate sanctions. At the same time, efforts to prevent ban evasion are well underway, with increased collaboration between gaming teams and platforms. Since the text chat improvements in October, the team has been actively monitoring inappropriate behavior and applying sanctions without waiting for player reports. This has reduced cheating reports in half since August.
Finally, Calm Seas mode will undergo some significant adjustments in the December update. The goal is to make it a more suitable space for new players, offering more rewarded progression while remaining a secure environment. The level cap for earning reputation will be lowered to 25 (from 40), and gold and reputation rewards will be increased from 30% to 100%. This will allow beginners to enjoy an enriching experience before launching into the High Seas. Players above level 25 will continue to receive gold, but will no longer be able to earn reputation or benefit from multipliers. This readjustment aims to better position High Seas mode as a learning and preparation mode for new players.
The deployment of the November update was initially scheduled for the 14th, but Rare quickly published a message to clarify that we will ultimately have to wait a little longer. The studio will provide details on the new date in a few days.
In the meantime, you can enjoy Sea of Thieves on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and the Windows Store. The title is of course available in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
