Les Sentiers Québec-Charlevoix, a merger of La Traversée de Charlevoix and Sentiers de la Capitale, receives the 2024 Outdoor Excellence Award for their good practices in sustainable development.
A non-profit organization, Sentiers Québec-Charlevoix received the 2024 Outdoor Excellence Award on November 6 in the “Good sustainable development practices” category for several sustainable development initiatives.
The organization is notably the instigator of a participatory inventory initiative of biodiversity on the hiking trails of Charlevoix aimed at better understanding the biodiversity of Charlevoix and raising awareness among hikers by involving them in the census of biodiversity. often overlooked.”
Sentiers Québec-Charlevoix collaborates with the GUEPE organization and with the Charlevoix Biosphere Region on the project to raise awareness and protect the Hauts-Plateaux de Charlevoix (very fragile alpine ecosystem). The organization calls on GUEPE to train its seasonal employees and make them aware of the ecology of the territory
The organization encourages carpooling among users of its trails via a Facebook page, with the aim of reducing GHG emissions. The team is itself a fan of this mode of collective transport.
Improving the efficiency of shelters is also underway. The energy transition is well underway thanks to the installation of new certified wood stoves. The shelters have also been re-insulated and the propane lighting has been replaced by solar panels.
This project will continue until 2025.
Sentiers Québec-Charlevoix has participated for 2 years in the Low Carbon Transition Pathway in order to target solutions for reducing GHG emissions, for mitigating the impacts of climate change and adapting to climate change.
The organization is in the running to obtain international Biosphere certification.
The awards of excellence are awarded annually by Aventure Écotourisme Québec and the Association of Regional Parks of Quebec.
