To maintain any hope of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Nations League, the Red Devils had an obligation to win against Italy.
After conceding a goal after only ten minutes of play, we had to chase the score. And even if Belgium created chances, Italy did not stop pushing either and some Azzurri balls were close to crossing Casteels’ goal line.
Defensive gaps
Because once again the defense showed shortcomings, which themselves were vectors of tensions within the group during the match. This was the case in the 55th minute of play, when Nicolò Barella sent a cross into the first zone.
The ball then passed Arthur Theate and was able to be taken by Di Lorenzo, who for his part had beaten Wout Faes. The ball finally passed over Casteels’ goal but Faes made a remark to Theate, implying that the latter should have watched the player coming behind him.
Fight in the group
A remark which did not please the Frankfurt player at all, who launched himself towards the Leicester player and pushed him quite aggressively. It was Amadou Onana who intervened immediately to prevent things from getting out of hand.
But this scene is proof that everything is far from turning out as we would like within the group and that we will therefore have to quickly find solutions. Because there will be play-offs to stay in League A and then the World Cup qualifiers will arrive.
