two lawyers want to ban a rally organized by “Justice for Ours”

Almost a year after the murder of Thomas in Crépol, the “Justice for ours” collective is organizing a gathering not authorized by the prefecture in Romans-sur-Isère on Sunday, November 30. An initiative that two lawyers want to ban.

A gathering currently not authorized by the prefecture, in particular to pay tribute to young Thomas, stabbed to death at the age of 16 on the night of November 18 to 19, 2023 in Crépol, should be held next Sunday 30 at Romans-sur-Isère, in Drôme.

It is the “Justice for Ours” collective which is behind this gathering. As indicated previously, to date, the project has not been the subject of any submission to the Drôme prefecture. For the moment, this gathering is not prohibited. On the other hand, two lawyers filed a complaint against the organizers of this initiative in order to prohibit the likely holding of the event.

These are Messrs Elise Rey-Jacquot and Bilel Hakkar, the latter being the lawyers of several of those involved in the Thomas murder case, pointing to a “provocation to racial hatred” and a “discriminatory public insult” .

“Incitement to racial hatred” and “discriminatory public insult”

“Bilel Hakkar and Elise Rey-Jacquot file a complaint against our collective (…) Even as we call for a rally to demand Justice, to which the locals plan to go,” wrote the collective “Justice for ours” on the social network

Questioned by Bleu Ardèche, Me Elise Rey-Jacquot indicated that “this collective creates the conviction that security would come through the rejection of immigrants. For us, this characterizes the offense of public incitement to discrimination or hatred.

Still according to our colleagues, the lawyer even makes the connection between the rally on November 30 and the descent of members of the ultra-right in Romans-sur-Isère a year ago, the weekend following the murder of Thomas.
