Acfas honored two professors from the University of Montreal by awarding them two of its prizes: Laurent Mottron is the winner of the Léo-Pariseau prize and Isabelle Archambault is awarded the Jeanne-Lapointe prize.
Laurent Mottron, pioneer in autism research, is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Addictology at UdeM. He holds the Marcel and Rolande Gosselin Research Chair in fundamental and applied cognitive neuroscience of the autism spectrum at the University of Montreal at Rivière-des-Prairies Hospital and Sainte-Justine Hospital. He is also a clinician at the Autism Expert Center of the Integrated University Health and Social Services Center of Northern Montreal. His work has reoriented research on autism and the understanding of this neurodevelopmental disorder towards new avenues and contributed to changing the place of autism in society. The Acfas Léo-Pariseau prize is awarded to him in recognition of the excellence and influence of his work in the field of health. Laurent Mottron also received this year the prize of excellence from the College of Physicians of Quebec.
Isabelle Archambault, professor at the School of Psychoeducation at UdeM, directs the Canada Research Chair on school, well-being and educational success of young people and co-directs Myriagone – McConnell-UdeM Chair in youth knowledge mobilization . Leading the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Intersectional Justice, Decolonization and Equity as well as the School Environments Research Group, she is deputy director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Research on the Brain and Learning.
Through her work, she plays an essential role in advancing knowledge on the well-being and success of young people in schools. In 2020, Isabelle Archambault was admitted to the prestigious College of New Researchers and Creators in Art and Science of the Royal Society of Canada, where she serves as secretary. The Acfas Jeanne-Lapointe prize highlights the influence of her work and actions in the field of educational sciences.
