The man suspected of the assassination of a homeless man in Lyon and of attempted homicides in France and Rotterdam (Netherlands) must be presented Friday, November 15 to an investigating judge, indicated Thursday, November 14 evening the public prosecutor's office in Evry (Essonne) to AFP.
The prosecution requested his indictment for attempted murder in Evry and his placement in pre-trial detention. The public prosecutor told AFP that he was considering bringing together all of the French investigations targeting this man. In addition to the murder in Lyon and the attempted homicide in Evry, investigators are wondering about his role in several attacks carried out with a similar modus operandi in Dijon, Strasbourg and Rotterdam.
A series of similar attacks in France and the Netherlands
The suspect arrested Tuesday at Toulon station is suspected of having committed several attacks of the same type, mainly targeting homeless people, with attacks carried out using stones or concrete slabs. Investigators are wondering about his role in several attacks carried out with a similar modus operandi in Dijon (Côte-d'Or), Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) and Rotterdam.
This man was arrested Tuesday evening at Toulon station (Var) after the attack on a young woman on board a train traveling in the south of France.
He presented himself during his arrest as a 32-year-old Cameroonian subject to an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF). He is suspected of being the author of the murder of a homeless Moldovan national, whose body was found Monday morning with a large wound on his head and a concrete block at his side.
An investigating judge from Evry had issued an arrest warrant as part of an investigation opened into an attempted homicide targeting a man, beaten in the face on the square in front of the Evry-Courcouronnes station on October 23 while he was asleep. Seriously injured, the victim was given total incapacity for work for 45 days.
In Dijon, in July, a 42-year-old woman, who was not homeless, was also attacked by a man who hit her in the head with one or more rocks, according to the prosecutor. The victim's ITT (total incapacity for work) was set at 10 days. In Strasbourg, an investigation was opened after the attack on a homeless person on October 30. The victim was initially hospitalized with a life-threatening condition, but his life is no longer in danger, the prosecutor said.
Soon presented to justice
During his arrest in Toulon after an attack on a train, the suspect presented himself as a 32-year-old Cameroonian under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF). Transferred to Evry, he must be presented to a magistrate on Friday to examine the elements relating to his involvement in these serial attacks. At the same time, the Dutch police suspect him of also being involved in an attempted murder in Rotterdam on a homeless man, a lead which remains to be confirmed by the authorities of the two countries.
