Cali helps individuals invest in cofferdams

Responding to a proposal from Jean-Claude Abanades, mayor of Sablons, a town regularly victim of the moods of the Isle, the community council of the Agglomeration of Libournais (Cali) approved on Wednesday November 13 a solidarity measure, a subsidy allocated to individuals, under criteria, for the acquisition of cofferdams intended to protect their residences. “It’s about supporting the inhabitants of municipalities which do not have containment,” recalls the president of Cali Philippe Buisson. A measure taken even though the intercommunity has chosen to maintain and strengthen its system, “in particular for vulnerable sectors near the Dordogne”.

Eligible owners? Those who have already suffered flooding of their home, supporting proof, in the form of images and/or insurance claim declaration, as well as proof of the installation of the cofferdam by means of a photo or of an invoice. The subsidy is calculated at 50% of the amount of the expense, up to 400 euros per household. It is awarded unconditionally. “It corresponds to a real need, particularly in the Isle valley”, regularly affected by rising water levels. “Cali must show solidarity with its residents who have suffered significant damage on several occasions. This is a very concrete use of the Gemapi tax (Management of aquatic environments and flood prevention, Editor's note). »

Maintain the dikes

Cali also intends to maintain an operational containment system. This choice, “although costly, […] is motivated by an interest in public security, the protection of property and people,” indicates Philippe Buisson via a press release. “Abandoning them would result in them being breached, and therefore brutally exposed to flooding this winter. » Cali also provides municipalities with emergency equipment intended for rapid interventions, such as a boat, tarpaulin drainage pumps and first aid equipment.
