Around ten South Korean NGOs active in human rights are finalizing a letter which will be distributed over the coming days on the internet to a very specific audience: the thousands of North Korean soldiers enlisted in Vladimir Putin's war against Ukraine. The message should be succinct: “This war started by the Russian army was an invasion and there is no reason for you to support it. Why should you die for Russia? Make the right choice,” relates Shin Hee-seok, spokesperson for the collective behind this approach cited by the South Korean mediaThe Korea Times.
The idea of a message emerged in recent days following press reports reporting that the approximately 10,000 North Korean soldiers made available to Moscow by Pyongyang would have free access to the internet for the first time. According to the Financial Timesthey would have rushed to pornographic sites. South Korean intelligence, which indicates that part of these troops are in the Kursk region, in Russia, to lend a hand to the Russian army in the face of the Ukrainian advance, specifies that it is very young recruits.
