Blizzard releases remasters of early Warcraft games and updates the shunned Warcraft 3: Reforged

The recent leaks were correct, but they were incomplete. This Wednesday, November 13, Blizzard celebrated the 30th anniversary of its main license, Warcraft. For the event, numerous announcements regarding the future of several games took place, including the MMORPG World of Warcraft obviously, but also the card game Hearthstone and real-time strategy games Warcraft. It is the latter that interests us here, since the publisher and developer now belonging to Microsoft has done things well to try to attract both nostalgic fans and neophytes.

Warcraft et Warcraft II : glories of the past brought up to date

As soon as the announcement was made, Blizzard marketed the Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest (€39.99) on its Battle.net application. Within it, in addition to containing the most recent Warcraft III : Reforged which will be discussed in a moment, are present the original versions but also remastered of the venerable Warcraft I (1994) et Warcraft II (1995). These are also offered individually, at €9.99 and €14.99 respectively.

On the menu, graphics brought up to date obviously, with a little more drawings and fewer pixels, an improved interface and changes in terms of gameplay and comfort to make the experience more modern (higher game speed, life bars at above units, larger selection of units, etc.). All campaigns are obviously present in new menus, as is the multiplayer part of the second opus.

Warcraft III : Reforged tries to make his mea culpa

Concerning Warcraft III : ReforgedBlizzard is well aware of having disappointed players in 2020 with this improved version of Warcraft III (2002). The firm is trying here to partially correct the situation with an update labeled 2.0.

The menus have been reworked and enriched with a few options and the graphics have been slightly improved. In addition, the choice is now left to players which elements (environment, heroes, buildings, units, icons and visual effects) will use the original graphics (now in HD) or the versions Reforged. Same thing on the music side, with the possibility of listening to those from the first games. Finally, the possibility of customizing keyboard shortcuts directly from the game is finally offered, while the multiplayer ranking system has been revised. All changes are listed here.
