After filing a complaint for the arson of his car, the man declared a claim to his insurance. Problem, Oissel’s video surveillance cameras had filmed him setting his vehicle on fire.
Caught by the patrol. A man was sentenced to ten months in prison by the Rouen court this Wednesday, November 13 for deliberately setting fire to his car in Oissel (Seine-Maritime) before declaring the incident to his insurance, the Rouen prosecutor’s office told BFM Normandy.

On October 26, the latter parked his car on rue Lecomte. He takes paint thinner, a flammable liquid, and sprays the seat before lighting the fire with a lighter. Once the doors are closed, he leaves the scene, leaving his vehicle to burn.
24 hours later, on October 27, he went to the Rouen police station to file a complaint for “arson”. He also makes a claim report to his insurance.
However, on the day of the fire, a surveillance camera from the Oissel municipal police captured the scene. Above, the man is seen parking his car, before setting it on fire.
He was finally arrested on Wednesday November 13 and placed in police custody. During the latter, he admitted the facts with which he was accused. On the same day, he was brought before the Rouen public prosecutor for a preliminary admission of guilt appearance (CRPC) for attempted fraud and false reporting to a judicial authority leading to unnecessary research.
Without any criminal record, the man was sentenced to 10 months’ suspended imprisonment as well as deprivation of the right to stand for election for 2 years as an additional sentence.
