Charles Manson, the man behind a California cult that led to the murder of several people in the late 1960s, including Sharon Tate, Roman Polanski's wife at the time, died in 2017 in prison. But even after his death, not all of his secrets had yet been revealed: in an audio recording during a phone call from the prison where he was incarcerated, he admitted to committing other crimes while he was in prison. “I lived in Mexico for a while. I went to Acapulco, I stole cars. I've been involved in things that were bigger than me, man. I participated in a few murders. I left my 357 Magnum in Mexico and left dead people on the beach,” then adds the criminal.

A sect with a murderous plan

This period of his life precedes the events in California at the end of the 1960s. According to Peacock, Making Manson unveils new recordings in which the famous criminal says more about his childhood, his crimes and the Manson Family, the sect he created in the 60s, in the middle of the hippie wave, on a ranch near Los Angeles .

In August 1969, on the orders of Charles Manson, who did not participate, a small group of followers of the sect brutally murdered five people in the house of Roman Polanski, on the heights of Beverly Hills. The victims are the filmmaker's pregnant wife Sharon Tate, writer Wojciech Frykowski, coffee heiress Abigail Folger and hairdresser Jay Sebring. Steven Parent, a friend of the family gardener, was also killed, CNN recalls.

After another series of murders, Charles Manson and his followers are arrested. Tried in 1970 for having pushed his followers to murder, the guru was sentenced to the death penalty, which was later commuted to life in prison. During the trial which both fascinated and worried America, Charles Manson presented himself as possessed by a demonic force.

According to the Los Angeles TimesCharles Manson remains suspected by the authorities of having committed other murders. The Los Angeles Police Department officially has a dozen unsolved homicide cases linked to him or the Manson Family.
