From Black Friday to Cyber Week, always more promotions
Cyber Week is a whole week of promotions and discounts on online purchases. It includes two major events: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Cyber Week often begins the Monday following Black Friday and can last the entire week, or even longer, depending on merchant practices. It focuses primarily on online sales and aims to extend the momentum of year-end shopping after the Thanksgiving weekend in the United States.
Initially, there was only Black Friday. This day of promotions, the day after Thanksgiving Thursday, appeared in the 1950s in the United States. It traditionally marks the start of shopping for the end-of-year holidays. Over the years, most physical stores and online platforms have started offering significant discounts, and the concept has spread internationally.
In 2005, a new event extended Black Friday: Cyber Monday. Launched by the National Retail Federation in the United States, the scheme was originally intended to encourage people to shop online at a time when high-speed internet connections were primarily available in the United States. work. It was conceived as a digital response to Black Friday, which at the time still focused primarily on in-store purchases.
With the explosion of online commerce during the 2010s, retailers began extending Cyber Monday promotions across multiple days, creating Cyber Week. Today, Cyber Week is embraced by retailers around the world and covers a variety of products, from electronics to clothing to digital services.
Finally, launched by Ebay in 2007, Green Monday now extends Cyber Week even longer, by dedicating a day of promotions to “last minute buyers” for their Christmas purchases.

What promotions can you expect in France during Black Friday or Cyber Week?
In France, Black Friday and Cyber Week promotions vary depending on the sector and brand. But unlike in the United States, the amount of reductions is strictly regulated by law.
First of all, discounts must not mislead consumers. A store must be able to prove that the pre-discount price is real, that is, it is the lowest price displayed for the product during the 30 days before the promotion.
Furthermore, a merchant does not have the right to sell at a loss, that is to say at a price lower than the purchase cost of the product. Article L442-5 of the Commercial Code, which governs this practice, indicates that selling at a loss is strictly reserved for regulated sales periods (which do not include Black Friday or Cyber Week) or exceptional cases (liquidations legal or end of stock according to certain conditions).
