At what age do young French people experience their first sexual intercourse? This is one of the questions answered by the ANRS/Inserm survey (“Context of sexualities in France”), the largest carried out since 2006, which collected responses from 31,518 people. Today, this “first time” occurs at 18.2 years for women, and 17.7 years for men. Figures slightly increasing, since in 2006, date of the last similar study, this median age was 17.6 for girls and 17.2 for boys. Or a difference + 6 months for girls and + 5 months for boys.

Fall of contraception
Another lesson from this vast study: this first sexual intercourse takes place more often than before without contraception – all types combined. The figures collected bear this out: among girls, the use of contraception for this “first time” increased from 98.3% in 2006 to 87.2% in 2023, a relatively significant drop.
