Be careful if you usually park your vehicle in the park and ride (P+R) from Luxembourg City station : THE prices and the terms of access will soon evolve.

And for good reason, from Monday November 25, 2024the mobile application of Luxembourg Railways « P+R CFL » will become the main means of access to the secure car park at the train station in the capital of Luxembourg, with a capacity of 620 spaces.

Here are the future prices for the station’s park and ride

From November 25, new pricing conditions will apply in the station's park and ride, according to the CFL.

Motorists will benefit from “free parking for the first 30 minutes in particular to drop off/pick up a loved one upon arrival/departure by train,” specify the CFL.

Once the 30 minutes have elapsed, the following rates will be applied:

• Monday to Saturday
  – 6h-19h : 1 euro/30 minutes
  – 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.: 50 cents/30 minutes
• Sunday and public holidays
  – 50 cents/30 minutes
• 1st full day : 25 euros (maximum) / next day : 15 euros (maximum) / 1 week of use: 85 euros maximum.

No free for 24 hours

Thanks to this same application, the P+R of Rodange, Mersch and Belval-Université became free for 24 hours (if the customer continues their journey beyond 1.5 km by public transport or by soft mobility).

But this is not the case for the P+R of Luxembourg City station.

The P+Rs of Rodange, Mersch and Belval-Université are in fact part of exchange hubs aimed at maximizing the modal shift from car to train. Located in an urban environment, the P+R of Luxembourg station is mainly used for parking purposes by workers from the district or the city, respectively by long-distance train travelers.

“New advantages” for motorists

In addition to the evolution of prices, “new advantages” will be offered to motorists of the station's P+R from November 25, according to the CFL:

• To know the occupancy rate parking in real time.
• Automatic payment via the application when leaving the car park thanks to automatic license plate recognition.
• Entering and exiting the parking lot sans contact (automatic opening of the barrier) thanks to license plate recognition.
• Have a historical complete parking and tickets.

If you do not have a smartphone to use the application, you can still use the parking lot by taking a paper ticket at the entrance.

Necessary work

Finally, to enable the implementation of these new features, work is necessary on the parking access infrastructure.

Until November 25, the accesses (entrance/exit) located on the right side of the P+R of the station are closed. From November 25 to 29, the accesses located on the left side (entrance/exit) will also be closed.
