Microsoft continues to push towards the adoption of Windows 11. Windows 10 users are increasingly in a hurry and the situation is not getting better with the unannounced deployment of an update following the October cumulative updates . But what's going on and how is the Redmond company discreetly trying to get you to upgrade to its current OS?
As spotted by Neowinthe update changes the behavior of Windows Update and has two purposes: force future updates and notify users of end of support. Microsoft explains that the update allows “Attempt to download and install feature updates on your machine if it is nearing or has reached end of support”.
The system can also “display periodically a notification notifying you of issues that could prevent Windows Update from keeping your device up to date and protected against current threats. »

Microsoft wants to push you towards installing Windows 11
For Windows 10 users, whose end of support arrives in October 2025 and will require you to pay for extended three-year support, this could take the form of repeated notifications to upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft justifies this decision for security reasons, but the method nevertheless raises questions. Particularly on the stealth deployment of an update which installs without warning after checking the updates. So of course, Windows 11 24H2 has just been released with some great new features, but not all users have the sufficient setup to take advantage of them, for example in certain regions.
This is not a new method for Microsoft. Update KB5001716 had mysteriously appeared on certain PCs in October 2023 and April 2024. The deployment had caused conflicts with previous versions.
Microsoft specifies, however, that its update, although it pushes towards Windows 11, will not force migration on incompatible PCs in terms of datasheet. However, unfortunate users of machines capable of receiving the latest version of the OS will be in trouble.
