– A historic match for the French basketball prodigy. Victor Wembanyama, who plays for the San Antonio Spurs team, scored 50 points in a row in a game in the NBA, the American league, for the first time. All in just 32 minutes. A feat which allowed his team to beat the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, November 13 evening.

These are notably 8 successful 3-point shots (out of 16) which allowed him to reach this record, underlines the San Antonio Express News. His previous best performance was 40 points. In the third quarter, Jordan Poole – who led the Wizards with 42 points – made all three of his free throw attempts to tie the game, 85-85. Wembanyama responded with a 3-pointer from which the Wizards were never able to recover.

At just 20 years and 314 days old, the player, who is also part of the French team, becomes one of the youngest players to score 50 points in a single game, behind Brandon Jennings (2009), LeBron James (2005 ) and Devin Booker (2017), emphasizes The World. The points record is still far away, however, since it was David Robinson who scored 71 points against the Los Angeles Clippers in 1994.

“It’s a kind of private club”

Victor Wembanyama is approaching the record of another French player in the NBA, Tony Parker, who scored 55 points during a Spurs game in 2008. “It’s a sort of private club… I don’t know how many players are there, but it’s definitely something I’m proud of,” he reacted after the match.

Other French players also participated in this NBA match: Alexandre Sarr, the Frenchman whom the Wizards chose as second choice in the 2024 NBA Draft, scored 12 points. His compatriot Bilal Coulibaly scored six. “Wemby is big, he shoots, he mixes pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop well but it’s a team effort to defend him,” underlined the first, relayed by Basketball USA.
