Greenpeace study confirms NATO's superiority over Russia, with one exception

SEEN FROM ELSEWHERE – According to a Greenpeace study, NATO countries spend ten times more money on their armed forces than Russia. Even excluding the United States, the balance tilts clearly in favor of the Alliance. Experts are nevertheless critical of Germany.

Since the invasion of Ukraine, Russia has sharply increased its military spending, moving into a war economy. Last year, Russia's defense budget reportedly reached around $127 billion, or a third of the total state budget. In 2024, it even represented 7.1% of the country's GDP. However, according to a Greenpeace study, NATO remains clearly ahead of Moscow, with the exception of nuclear weapons.

In this study entitled “ When is enough enough? » (When will it be enough?, literal translation), Greenpeace compares the military power of NATO and Russia. If the NGO is known for its environmental defense activities, it has also been involved in the field of arms and arms exports for several years.
