The new Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, promised on Wednesday not to “take our foot off the gas” against Lebanese Hezbollah, against whom the Israeli army has launched an intense bombing campaign across Lebanon accompanied by ground operations. in the south of the country.
“We will not cease fire, we will not let up, and we will not allow any agreement that does not include the achievement of the objectives of the war, and in particular the right of Israel to act alone against any terrorist activity,” Mr. Katz said on his first visit to the Israeli army’s Northern Command base since taking office the previous week.
“We hit Hezbollah with violent blows and eliminated (Hezbollah leader Hassan) Nasrallah (killed on September 26), and this is precisely the moment to continue striking with all possible force, in order to reap the fruits of victory,” added Mr. Katz.
According to him, Israel must “disarm Hezbollah, push it beyond the Litani River and create the conditions necessary for the safe return of the inhabitants of northern Israel to their homes.”
Shortly after his remarks were published, air raid sirens were sounded early Wednesday evening in many areas of northern and central Israel following projectile fire from Lebanon, according to the Israeli army.
According to a military press release, “five projectiles were identified above the territory and some intercepted.”
