Head coach Doug Pederson confirmed the information Wednesday, and specified that Mac Jones would get the start against the Detroit Lions (8-1) on Sunday.
Lawrence injured his left shoulder after being tackled in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles on November 3. Rather than slide, he chose to dive and was tackled hard by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun. Lawrence was limited in practice last week, but was held out of the starting lineup before the game that ended 12-7 in favor of the Minnesota Vikings.
Pederson clarified that he was going to give his star quarterback an additional week of rest.
Jones made his first start in almost a year last week and completed 14 of 22 pass attempts for 111 yards, three sacks and three turnovers. Jones had two interceptions and a fumble in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars (2-8) concluded the game with 143 yards, the fifth worst total in the history of the Florida franchise.
The Jaguars will have a bye week after the game against the Lions, so Lawrence will have three weeks of rest before attempting to return to play on the 1st.is December against the Houston Texans.
