In the city, all public transport, urban and intercity, has been cut. The high-speed train between Malaga and Madrid is also not running due to flooding, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Taxi services also no longer operate on the streets of Malaga. “In a situation like this, any street can be a trap. So we recommended that drivers do not go out with cars. We do not want our employees and residents to be stuck and trapped.”the president of the Spanish taxi association Miguel Ángel Martín. “There are no more vehicles at the airport. I even wonder how they let certain planes land since all transport is currently cut off.”

The first testimonies have been recorded. In particular that of a resident who is trying to drain water from the parking lot where his car was parked. “I know it’s a material thing, but I bought the car four months ago.”he admitted, worried.

Since yesterday, the entire region has been on alert. Thousands of preventive evictions in areas most at risk of flooding have been observed. While business closures, suspension of classes in schools, institutes and universities have also been decreed.

Heavy rains caused flooding in Cártama and the capital Malaga. The National Meteorological Agency warns that the risk will persist this afternoon, even if the rains “will get worse” at certain times. “The wind has picked up a lot from the east, which is fueling the precipitation that is occurring. The situation will continue throughout the day, it will even get worse throughout the afternoon.”explained Jesús Riesco, director of the Malaga Meteorological Center.

Code red remains in effect until midnight.
