20 books are now competing for the Verdelettres prize 2025 in Pléneuf-Val-André.

“By the end of the year, after reading, we will have selected 5,” announces Tiphaine Toudic, manager of the bookstore The Obelewhich launched the Verdelettres literary prize this year, with a reading committee which currently has around twenty members.

For children's literature

The 2024 prize was awarded just before the summer to Claire Deya for A world to remake.

Given the success of the event, the 2025 prize is already on track, with a few modifications and a big new feature: there will also be a prize for the children's literature.

Tiphaine Toudic, passionate about children's literature, was very keen on this expansion of the prize.

We are in the process of setting up a committee of young readers, whom we work alongside, whose talents and reading skills and their taste for commitment have been identified.

Because toddlers will likely have half a dozen titles to read before the end of the year. You have to be tenacious.

“We hope to be able to work with schools and colleges. » We will know a little more in a few weeks…

The birth of the Verdelettres Prize

Lancer a literary prize locally was an idea that Tiphaine had in mind since the launch of her bookstore in 2019. “But with the start of the store and the covid that followed, I was busy with other things…”

A few months ago, she spoke with members ofa book club private: enthusiasts meet approximately once a month to discuss their favorites. They want to go further and create a literary prize.

For Tiphaine, it's finally the time. “We met to define what we wanted to include in this price. »

Roman francophone

These literature lovers decide to reward a first French-speaking novel. The reading club is transformed into an association to create the official reading committee for the Verdelettres Prize, in January 2024.

After several reading phases and selection, two works thus stood out from the crowd. A world to remake by Claire Deya and From the same wood by Marion Fayolle.

In June, we submitted these two works to a vote by all the readers who wished to participate in the prize.

90 votes in total allowed Claire Deya to be awarded the prize “who was very widely acclaimed”, recognizes Tiphaine Toudic.

The same price as RTL

Pleasant surprise, this same work received the RTL price Read in the spring, reinforcing the legitimacy and seriousness of the brand new local literary prize.

Above all, it means that we were able to produce quality work!

And the 2025 Verdelettres Prize is already on track. “We wanted to start earlier, in particular to allow readers in the last selection phase to have more time to read the last two works,” explains Tiphaine.

Meeting with Claire Deya, the winner

The Verdelettes Prize is therefore based this year on the works of the literary returnand not on the spring releases like last year, always focusing on the first French-speaking novels.

“A theme seems to be emerging which will help with the final selection,” believes the young woman.

Claire Deya, who was unable to travel to receive her prize this summer, will be present at the bookstore during the fall to a small official ceremony.

“We will take advantage of this to organize a session of dedication of his book which sold very well all summer at the Obèle! »
