It is because of an attack for no apparent reason that the suspect in the murder of a homeless man in Lyon was arrested in Toulon (Var). The journey of this man, subject to an OQTF (obligation to leave the territory) as he told investigators, has since been scrutinized by the authorities, thus revealing a series of attacks and attempted homicides in way of working similar in other cities in France and beyond its borders.
Her arrest, first of all, took place on the evening of Tuesday, November 12, 2024. A 26-year-old young woman, a passenger on a train leaving from Marseille Saint-Charles station, explained to controllers that she had been the victim of an attack shortly after the train left.
She describes to them a suspect, his head covered with a black hood, specifies The Parisian who allegedly punched and kicked him on several parts of his body. Railway employees check the man who does not have a transport ticket or identity document.
The train was then stopped at Toulon station, where the police arrested it. According to our colleagues, the police are making the connection between their suspect and the person implicated in the violent attack on a homeless man in the Netherlands.
Similar clothes on surveillance cameras
On the night of November 4 to 5, a homeless man was attacked with a tile in Rotterdam. The victim, initially announced dead, is in reality plunged into a coma in critical condition. The presence of surveillance cameras allowed Dutch police to obtain an image of the suspect: a dark-skinned man, aged around 30, wearing a black raincoat, blue pants and lace-up shoes.
Despite the arrest of the train attacker and main suspect in the Dutch case, local authorities have not yet confirmed that it was the same man, specifies theAFP.
A week later, this time in Lyon (Rhône), another homeless man of Moldovan origin was fatally attacked with a cinder block by an individual « a priori dressed as the suspect arrested in Toulon and filmed in Rotterdam”, according to the Lyon prosecutor's office cited by The Parisian. This same prosecution, however, indicated to Figaro not wanting to move forward “too early” on the link between all these cases.
Connection with violent attacks in Évry, Dijon and Strasbourg
What is certain, however, is that the man arrested at Toulon station “was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by an investigating judge in Évry”, said this Wednesday to theAFP the Toulon prosecutor Samuel Finielz.
The suspect, presenting himself as a 32-year-old Cameroonian targeted by an OQTF, is suspected of having committed homicides “with the same operating mode” in Évry (Essonne), Dijon (Côte-d'Or) and Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), according to a police source.
Another source specifies that the crimes of the man suspected of having committed these murders spanned several weeks. This Wednesday, the Dijon public prosecutor's office confirms BFMTV having actually issued a search warrant against the man arrested in Toulon for intentional violence during an attack dating back to last summer. On July 25, he allegedly targeted a 42-year-old nurse with stones. Head injuries which left him totally incapacitated for work (ITT) for ten days.
The judicial investigation opened in Évry dates back to October 23. The prosecution confirmed BFMTV that a homeless man had received a block of concrete in the face while he was sleeping on the square in front of the Évry-Courcouronnes station. The victim, initially hospitalized, received a 45-day ITT.
The identity of the suspect is still being verified and DNA analyzes should make it possible to make a connection or not with the violence perpetrated in all these cities.
