The extension of the range has been expected since the launch of R5. Now that we are starting to see it on the streets, a sign of a good start to sales, Renault is launching the “small” battery. 40 kWh capacity and up to 312 km WLTP. Renault is taking the opportunity to launch a new finish: Evolution.
When you buy your R5 E-Tech, you will have to know what use you will have for it. If you only use it on a daily basis and on journeys of less than 200 to 250 km, then this entry-level version will be sufficient. This is 12 kWh less than the “normal” version of the R5 (412 km WLTP) but it makes a difference in price. Even more so with the Evolution finish.
For this version, Renault lowers the price to €27,990 before electric bonus. In 2024, it is €4,000 but could increase to €3,000 in 2025. This therefore puts the R5 40 kWh at €23,990 bonus deducted. In addition to Evolution, a Five finish will be launched on this version at 40 kWh. This version will be even more entry-level since Renault announces it under €25,000 bonus not deducted! We might be tempted to wait for this version again. It will have 95 horsepower and 300 km WLTP.
The Evolution finish is “basic”. It has steel rims with hubcaps, a 10″ OpenR system with smartphone replication but automatic air conditioning and heat pump. The basics and the bare necessities in a way. In the gallery, we have put the 40 kWh Evolution version and the 52 kWh Techno In addition to the hubcaps, the hardware also changes with a partly unpainted rear bumper.
Our opinion, by leblogauto.com
Aesthetically, wouldn’t the Renault 5 E-Tech ultimately be better like this? With its partly black shield, fewer decals and its old-fashioned antenna? Well, it’s up to everyone to see which R5 will be most suitable. But with this version at €23,990 (bonus deducted), try to catch up with those who could be tempted by other cheaper EVs (hello Citroën ë-C3).
There remains a price for a car which is still as high. It should come as no surprise that the automobile market is declining overall.
To summarize
Renault unveils a first step in opening the R5 range downwards with the R5 Evolution 40 kWh. It appears at less than €24k bonus deducted. In 2025, a Five version, even more entry-level and less expensive, should be launched.
