Cop29 in Baku. Why will CO2 emissions continue to increase in 2024?

The Global carbon project publishes this Wednesday, November 13, 2024 its forecasts for global CO2 emissions in and around the world. This gas, resulting from the combustion of fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas), is one of the main causes of global warming inherent to human activities: transport, industry, energy, buildings, deforestation… It should once again reach a record level in 2024, with a total of 37.4 billion tonnes released into the atmosphere. This represents an increase of 0.8% compared to 2023, which was already a record year. This increase increases the consequences and “the dangers linked to global warming”, underlines the document.

This annual report which mobilizes researchers from around a hundred organizations and laboratories.
