Ukraine assassinates Russian officer in Crimea

Ukraine organized a “special operation” to “liquidate” an officer of the Russian Black Sea Fleet this Wednesday morning in annexed Crimea, a source within the security services told AFP.

The Russian soldier was killed in Sevastopol in Crimea, in the explosion of his car which had been booby-trapped, announced the authorities of this Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Moscow, who have opened an investigation into a terrorist act.

“Inside the vehicle was its driver, he was quickly evacuated and transferred to doctors,” “but they failed to save him. He died of his wounds. The victim is a soldier,” the governor installed by Moscow, Mikhail Razvojaïev, had previously detailed on Telegram, referring to a possible “act of sabotage”.

This is a “successful special operation of the SBU,” said the source in the Ukrainian security services. The officer was “a war criminal who ordered the launch of cruise missiles from the Black Sea on civilian targets in Ukraine” and represented “an absolutely legitimate target,” she further maintained.

Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, which was not recognized by the international community. The peninsula’s courts regularly hand down heavy sentences against residents of Crimea, accused of being agents of kyiv and convicted of acts of “espionage”, “treason”, “collaboration”, or “sabotage” on behalf of the Ukrainians.
