Shilei Du, accused of the first degree murder of his partner Guangmei Ye, was arrested last September after threatening to kill him.

Among his release conditions, the 36-year-old man was not allowed to meet with the victim or attempt to contact her. He was also prescribed anger management therapy.

On Facebook, Senator Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu, who lives in Saint-Philippe, commented on the situation. “Another feminicide, one too many, a predictable murder, a passive crown lawyer, late justice,” he wrote. All these expressions to say that this 24th feminicide would NEVER, NEVER have taken place.”

He recalled the recent adoption of Law S-205 which could have required the accused to wear a surveillance bracelet.

Murder committed Thursday

According to the indictment, Du allegedly caused the death of Guangmei Ye on or around Thursday, November 7. However, the victim’s inanimate body was only discovered three days later, on November 10, in the residence which belonged to the couple, located on rue de Fontenelle in Candiac.

The man was arrested on the spot. The police investigation was entrusted to the crimes against the person division of the Sûreté du Québec.

Shilei Du will return before the judge on November 19 at the Longueuil courthouse.

This murder represents the second feminicide to occur in Candiac this year and the 24th in Quebec in 2024.
