Jannik Sinner confirms against Taylor Fritz and takes the lead of group A (video)

The Italian Jannik Sinner won against the American Taylor Fritz (ATP 6) during the second match of the ATP Finals, the Masters, Tuesday evening in Turin, Italy. The world No.1 takes a big step towards qualifying for the semi-finals by winning in two sets 6-4, 6-4 and 1h40 of play. After an initial victory on Sunday against the Australian Alex De Minaur without trembling ( 6-3, 6-4), the winner of the US Open and the Australian Open this season continued with an accomplished match against Fritz.

Sinner, 23, only had to save one break point in the first set to ultimately win the first set 6-4, converting his first set point.

Unhappy finalist against Serbian Novak Djokovic in 2023, the Italian continued his march forward in the second set, being solid in the crucial moments, not conceding a single break point. Sinner once again converted his first opportunity on Fritz’s serve at 5-4, transforming his first match point.

Poured into the ‘Ilie Nastase’ group, group A, Jannik Sinner takes the lead in the ranking with two victories in as many matches, and is ahead of Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev (ATP 4), both with one victory on the clock. The Russian achieved an important success earlier in the day against De Minaur (ATP 9), last in the group without the slightest victory.

In group B called ‘John Newcombe’, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 3) was surprised against the Norwegian Casper Ruud (ATP 7) on Monday, losing 6-1, 7-5 while Alexander Zverev (ATP 2) won against the Russian Andrey Rublev (ATP 9) with a double 6-4.
