Rodri: “I wouldn’t have been Ballon d’Or if…”

The winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or, Rodri, has made important revelations about his victory. In an interview with El Partidazo de Cope, Rodri returned to comments made by Pep Guardiola which could have prevented him from winning the trophy.

“Pep Guardiola once told me that a good defensive midfielder doesn’t appear in the highlights.

But I’m sure that if I had remained the traditional defensive midfielder that I was a few years ago, I wouldn’t have won the Ballon d’Or.”he indicated.

Furthermore, in the same interview, the Manchester City midfielder shared the secret of his Ballon d’Or success.

“I won the Ballon d’Or thanks to consistency, which is the most difficult thing in football. I was the most consistent player of the season”.

Indeed, the midfielder had an exceptional season, both for club and national team.

In addition to Euro 2024, which he won by being named the competition’s best player, Rodri remained undefeated all season with Spain.

With the Citizens, he won the Premier League, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

It should be noted that the Ballon d’Or awarded to Rodri aroused strong criticism. On October 28, 2024, the football world expected the coronation of the Brazilian player from Real Madrid, Vinícius Junior.

A leak before the ceremony spoiled the atmosphere and led to a boycott of the event by Real Madrid, unhappy with the result.
