The victim was attacked on Sunday November 10 while walking a dog along the Roubaix canal. She did not survive her injuries despite cardiac massage provided by a jogger.
The crime took place on Chemin du Halage, in Marcq-en-Barœul (North), not far from the parking lots of Burger King and Centrakor. A 58-year-old man was stabbed to death there on Sunday, November 10, indicates a source close to the case. Contacted by Agence France-Presse (AFP), the prefecture confirmed “a murder late in the afternoon” without further details.
According to our information, the events occurred around 6 p.m., in a relatively lit area. The victim was walking a friend's dog along the Roubaix canal when she was attacked. A jogger who arrived after the attack tried to revive the fifty-year-old by performing cardiac massage on him. But he succumbed to his injuries before help arrived.
Two homeless men, including one aged 50, were arrested on the evening of the crime.
“An extremely rare drama”
Bernard Gérard, Les Républicains (LR) mayor of the northern commune, was working when he was informed of the events. “I came urgently to the place. I met the relatives, the family, who came,” he relates at the microphone of BFM Grand Lille.
“I have a deep thought for this person who is the victim of a terrible murder. We can only be deeply saddened by such a situation. I have a lot of compassion for this family,” he continues. .
And added: “As mayor, our hearts are heavy when we hear a tragedy as terrible as this.” The elected official believes that it is “unimaginable to go walking a dog and then be attacked in this way and lose your life”.
Bernard Gérard is all the more surprised as the facts occurred “in an urban area, with shops nearby”, an area where “a lot of people walk”. The councilor sees it as “an extremely rare phenomenon and an extremely rare tragedy” and hopes that “something so sad and so terrible will never happen again”.
